Besides the obvious anatomical differences, we vary in our communication styles, decision making, problem solving, displays of emotion and excitement, etc.
What brought me to this extroidinary realization?
Wedding cakes.
I don't know about those of you that have already been married, but did you ask for input on your wedding cake from your fiance? I did, and it was HILARIOUS, but I will get to that in a minute. First, let's explain how we got here.
The cake has been a topic of contention for quite some time in this wedding. At first I didn't even want one; I wanted a dessert buffet with our favorite desserts from a variety of places. A pan of peach cobber, Napoleon from the Lithuanian bakery, cupcakes, tortes, etc. *R* was not thrilled with the idea. He wanted something we can cut, and apparently cutting a pie just wasn't what he had in mind.
We also discovered that our venue doesn't allow us to bring in ANY food except for a wedding cake. Their "Dessert Bar" menu starts $8.00 per person. Which, I think is a bit ridiculous considering I can get a wedding cake for $3.00 per slice, or even less if you do a sheet cake.
Thus, we are now cake shopping. Next weekend when we go back up to Omaha to do our reception menu tasting we also have two cake tasting appointments and I just might make a third. Because I you only get married once and darnit I'm going to get as much enjoyment out of this process as possible.
Which brings me to the cake idea gathering and getting *R*'s opinion on what he likes and doesn't like.
First of all - we vary quite a bit. But that isn't the funny part. The funny part is listening to his "excitement" at the different cakes. Words that I would never think to describe a pretty cake come flying out of his mouth and I couldn't help but bite my toungue to keep from giggling.
Things like, "BAM!! Now THATS a f*ing cake!", or "This cake is sick!", or "Thats the one. That's the F*ing ONE! BAM!". Yes, he said "BAM!" a lot. And "BAM" is not a word he commonly uses. I think he associates the use of the word "bam" with food, and has deemed it the only appropriate display of excitement when discussing anything edible. Thankyouverymuch Emeril!
Another difference? I could spend hours and hours looking at cakes, mulling over the different options, weighing the pros and cons of different displays or what fits the overall "feel" of our wedding. Where as each time he saw another one he liked he would say "BAM! Thats the one!" I think he found 18 different cakes that were all 'the one'. Hmmm...now that I think about it, I wonder what that says about his decision to marry me?
Anyway...it was funny, and in all honesty I'm glad that he is willing to sit down and spend 20-30 minutes talking about cake design. And he didn't do it begrudgingly either. He was helpful and patient...well...for at least the first 15 minutes.

Oh that is hilarious!! We had a few eye opening moments during wedding planning. Like when Z insisted that we spend $500 on gold bows for the backs of the chairs at the reception. I kid you not. He was picky about the weirdest things!!!
That is too funny! I love that he's stolen Emeril's BAM! To use for every single, good cake. Good luck on finding "the one"!
I really laughed when you made the comment about hoping that wasn't his approach to marriage!
I'm sure you'll find the perfect cake!
HAHAHAHA That's hilarious! Is it wrong that now I kinda hope my cake-shopping experience is as funny as yours?! I hope you ended up finding one (or at least 18!) that you liked, too!
Mark was picky about weird things too. I just can't picture R yelling bam! about a wedding cake! The stuff coming out of his mouth is hillarious.
That's hilarious! My husband definitely had in put on the cake...There was NO way he was going to miss that!
That is too funny!!
That is hilarious! At least he is interested in certain aspects of the wedding.
James Bond only had one MAJOR request...where we got married, after that he could have cared less.
I love it! Those exclamations are beyond hilarious! I think it's really cute how pumped up he got about wedding cakes :)
