Book Review: The Help

I don't do a lot of book reviews on this blog. I've always felt like books are so personal and it depends on an individuals taste. What is incredibly interesting to one, is boring and dry to the next.

During our honeymoon I finally had the chance to read The Help a novel by Kathryn Stockett.

It takes place in Jackson Mississippi in 1962 and follows a young 22 year old woman named Skeeter who decides to write a book that rocks the world of a still segregated Jackson. Here is an excerpt from a synopsis, courtesy of Blogging for a Good Book.
The author uses Skeeter’s book about the black maids’ experiences as the vehicle to tell the stories of the women in Jackson, Mississippi on the cusp of the Civil Rights Movement. Some moments are laugh out loud funny, others gut-wrenchingly awful and sad – but what makes it linger is the feeling that any of these stories could be the stories of real people during a difficult time in our history.

I really do believe that this novel is not only universal but truly enlightening as to America's very recent history.

Buy it, borrow it, do what ya gotta do! Just read it!

I have been dying to read this book! The wait list for it at the library is CRAZY. Hopefully, it won't take another 2 months for me to get my hands on it.
